Why Not Amalgams (Silver Fillings)?

For many years dentists have used silver or amalgam fillings. They were chosen for their cost effective

and long term capabilities. However, time has shown that teeth are breaking and cracking at a high

rate. Research has shown that amalgam slowly over time can “swell” inside the tooth causing internal

cracks. Teeth that seem fine one day can break the next day with no warning. The modern materials of

today do not “swell’ but actually strengthen the tooth by bonding the walls together. Porcelain is often

the best choice for its long term wear and aesthetic superiority.
