Myomonitor for TMJ/Bite Problems

When applying the principles of Neuromuscular Dentistry (found in the section titled Cosmetic and Aesthetic Solutions ) Dr. Strauss uses a device known as a myomonitor also referred to as TENS (Transcutaneous Electrical Neural Stimulation). This battery operated device uses gentle electrical stimulation delivered through adhesive electrodes attached to the skin over specific facial muscle sites. The stimulus delivered causes the muscles to relax to the desired state. This process usually takes between 30 to 60 minutes. The myomonitor causes the muscles to exercise thereby increasing blood flow to the area. This brings more oxygen and nutrients to the muscles and also flushes away accumulated waste products of metabolism. The process brings tense and overworked muscles to a state of physiologic rest. From that point Dr. Strauss will record this relaxed jaw position and work on correcting the bite from this basis.
